GeorgiaLocated in the central and western part of Transcaucasia, Georgia is bordered on the north by Russia, on the east by Azerbaijan, on the south by Armenia and Turkey and the Black Sea washes its western coast. Mountains occupy most of the territory. Between the ranges of the Lesser and Greater Caucasus is the plain of Colchis and Kartli Plateau and east, the valley of Sorrel. The subtropical climate is moderate in the west and east. Its main rivers are the Kura and the Rioni. With plenty of rain in the west and bathed by the Black Sea, forests occupy 40% of the territory. Georgia has large deposits of coal and manganese, as well as fine wines. Bacterial contamination of 70% of the Black Sea is a serious problem.
