In the department of Apurimac, whose capital is the province of Abancay, is the district Haquira, there is a huge, scary place called jail building stone Ccacca Haquira or jail in the province of Cotabambas, such construction was made by Indians under the orders of the commissioners and owners of the mines in colonial times.

When the Spanish arrived in Peru, came hungry to find gold at every turn to give, seeking and searching for this treasure, they learned that in Haquira – Cotabambas had mines of gold and silver, arrived and forced the inhabitants to work for them, digging this treasure, seeing that many were reluctant and did not accept all the assumptions sent conquistadors decided to build a place to punish and intimidate them not to disobey.

For what the Indians had to dig a huge rock or volcanic rock 60 meters high and 500 in circumference, this construction was supposed to administer justice to these conquerors and punish those who did not comply with the laws, holding them and making paying with their lives to be missing.  (continue reading…)
